The JR Flyers were home this
weekend for a pair of league games against the NJ Colonials and NJ Devils.
On Saturday, the Flyers faced the Colonials and the JR Flyers were looking
to avenge an early season loss. The game did not start well for the Flyers
when the Colonials scored about 2 minutes into the game on a wrap around.
The Flyers then woke up and tied the game just a few minutes later as
Chandler Liero hit J.R. Barone in front of the net for the Flyers first
goal. The Flyers then put it into high gear as they continued to pressure
the Colonials and built a 4-1 lead thru 2 periods. The Flyers never stopped
as they took this game 6-3.
On Sunday, the NJ Devils visited Ice Line. Both teams came out fast as the
action went end to end. The Flyers struck first as Sean Wacker shot one thru
the pads of the Devils goalie to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. The Flyers then
scored again to take a 2-0 lead on one of the most exciting goals that
anyone can witness. The Flyers were on a power play late in the 2nd period.
They moved the puck in the zone with patience. As time was running out, the
Flyers patience paid off as they found a wide open player next to the net
and he stuffed it in as the buzzer went off. JR Barone then added another
goal in the 3rd period as the Flyers took this game, 3-0.
(12-NOV-2007) After a trip
to Chicago the previous weekend, the JR Flyers entertained a pair of League
games at Ice Line this weekend against Suffolk PAL. On Saturday evening, the
Flyers came out strong and quickly converted to go up 1-0 early in the first
period; this would set the tone for the rest of the game. The Flyers
displayed skill and quickness as they continued to outplay Suffolk on
offense and defense, and finish this game with a 17-1 victory.

On Sunday, the Flyers again came out strong and picked up where they left
off the night before. The Flyers continued with a strong offensive attack as
they filled the net frequently with pucks on their way to a 13-3 victory.
(6-NOV-2007) Nike Bauer
Tourney, Chicago, IL
The Flyers traveled to Chicago for the annual Nike-Bauer tournament. The
competition would be tough as the JR Flyers were to face Mid Fairfield,
Detroit Little Caesars, and Detroit Honeybaked in the preliminary rounds.
The Flyers started against Mid Fairfield on Friday morning. The game was
tight with Mid Fairfield leading 2-1 going into the 3rd. The Flyers just
could not generate enough offense as MF took this game 4-2. In the afternoon
on Friday, the Flyers faced Detroit Little Caesars. LC came out strong as
the Flyers looked tired. The Flyers could not muster enough offense or
defense as LC won this game, 7-1.
On Saturday, the Flyers faced another team from Detroit, this time it was
Honeybaked. Honeybaked started strong as they scored about 20 seconds into
the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Flyers continued their sloppy play as
Honeybaked built a 4-0 lead after 1 period. The Flyers never recovered as
they dropped this game 7-2. On Saturday night, the Flyers faced the
Anchorage North Stars in their final game of the tournament. The North Stars
were a big team but the Flyers had a huge speed and skill advantage. After
the North Stars struck first to take a 1-0 lead, the Flyers put it into high
gear using skill and speed to dominate the game as they never looked back
and won, 9-1.
(22-OCT-2007)
The Long Island Royals visited
Ice Line this weekend for a pair of league game match-ups. On Saturday, the
Flyers came out fast and furious as they applied pressure to the LI goalie.
The Flyers scored first with Cullen McNally back-handing a shot over the
goalie to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. The Flyers kept up the pressure with
swarms of shots from both the points and in front of the net. The LI goalie
did not crack and kept his team in it. The Royals tied things up early in
the third and then put a PP goal in with about 6 min. left in the game to
take the lead. The Flyers kept the pressure but could not find the net. The
Royals added an empty net goal to win this game that was seemingly dominated
by the Jr Flyers.

On Sunday, the Flyers looked to
avenge themselves as they came out strong again. The LI goalie was up to the
task once again as he steered shots away. The Flyers finally cracked the LI
goalie as Kevin McGeary hit a wide open Sean Wacker in front of the net for
the first goal of the game. The Royals came right back, scoring 7 seconds
later to tie the game at 1. The Flyers then had enough as they starting
ripping shots and finally breaking down the LI goalie as Joey Marooney,
Cullen McNally, J.R. Barone and Wills Singley all added goals, giving the
Flyers a 5-1 win.

(15-OCT-2007) After a day
of practice on Saturday, the Jr Flyers hosted the Montclair Blues PW AA on
Sunday. This game was no different than the first time these 2 teams matched
up. It was a tight defensive battle all the way thru but the Blues came out
on top with a 2-0 win.
(11-OCT-2007) The JR Flyers
made their annual trek north to Rochester to play in the 96 Invitational
games. The Flyers were placed in a division with Cleveland Barons, Tampa Bay
Jr Lightning and the Richmond Hills Stars. This turned out to be a tight
division as all game between teams were close games. The Flyers 1st played
the Barons on Friday night. This was a defensive battle which saw the Barons
come out on top 3-1. On sat. morning, the Flyers came out strong against TB
Lightning. Unfortunately, the Lightning struck first and added a few more
which seemed to deflate the Flyers as TB took this game. Sat. afternoon, the
Flyers faced Richmond Hill. The game was even and the score was 1-1 until RH
scored the go-ahead goal with 3 min. left to play to win 2-1. The Flyers
then faced the Buffalo Regals in the consolation round. The Flyers built a
3-1 lead but could not hold on as Buffalo scored the go-ahead goal with 3
min left to win 4-3. All in all, the kids played hard but just could not get
the breaks they needed to win.
(30-SEP-2007)
On Saturday, the Flyers traveled to
Pennsauken to play a NL game with the Flyers Youth team. The Flyers struck
early and took a 2-0 lead. The FY then converted 2 PP goals to even the
score. Cullen McNally put the Flyers up for good as he ripped a wrist shot
past the goalie on the short side to give the JR Flyers a 3-2 win.
On Sunday, the Flyers traveled to VF to face the Minutemen. The Flyers
applied pressure but the VF goalie was up to the task. The Flyers finally
broke the ice in the 2nd period as shot from the point was deflected into
the net. The Flyers added 2 more goals, the last being an empty netter to
win the game 3-0.

games this weekend. The CT Wolves visited Ice Line. In Saturday's game, the
Flyers came out strong once again, but could not get the puck in the net.
The Wolves took a 1-0 lead about midway thru the 2nd period. The Flyers
fought but could not get on the board as they fell 2-0.
On Sunday, the Flyers were not to be denied. They knew they had to find a
way to win, and that they did as they beat the Wolves, 3-1.

down the Flyers in the 3rd to take this game. On Sunday, the Flyers had a NL
match-up with the Montclair Blues AA team. This game was even throughout
with the game ending in a tie, 3-3. The Flyers then traveled to Mennen Ice
Arena in the afternoon to face the NJ Colonials. The Flyers dominated most
of this game but could not crack the Colonials goalie. The Flyers ended with
a disappointing 2-0 loss.

(9-SEP-2007) The Flyers
traveled to Washington DC to face the Washington Little Caps at Kettler
Iceplex. In game 1, the Flyers came out strong and looked like the dominant
team early on. Unfortunately, the Flyers could not put the puck in the net.

tire and the Caps continued the pressure, eventually winning 5-2.

In game 2, the Flyers struck early
in the game to finally get an early lead. The Caps kept fighting back though
and kept the game even. The game was a see-saw battle as the score was 5-5
late into the 3rd. The Caps scored a goal with about 3 min. left then added

(4-SEP-2007) Pee-Wee AA
Labor Day Tourney at Ice Line
The Jr Flyers Pee-Wee minor hockey team started their season by entering the
Pee-Wee AA Labor Day Tournament at Ice Line. The Flyers were in a division
with the NJ Jaguars, Wintersport Royals and Hatfield Selects.
The Flyers played their first game on Friday against the NJ Jaguars. The
Jaguars had a size advantage but that would not scare the Flyers. They came
out strong and played tough defense to beat the Jaguars in a close game,
3-2. Saturday morning, the Flyers faced a big and talented Wintersport
Royals team. The Royals are supposed to be among the top pee-wee AA teams in
the DVHL. The Flyers came out and battled and the game was tied at 2, until
Wintersport got a goal midway thru the 3rd period and held on to beat the
Flyers, 3-2. On Saturday afternoon, the Flyers played the Hatfield Select
team. This game was a defensive battle as neither team wanted to put the
puck in the net. The Flyers finally hit pay dirt as Joey Marooney fired a
low shot past the Hatfield goalie late in the 2nd period. The Flyers then
showed how good their defense and goaltending really is, by holding on to
win this low scoring game, 1-0. The win put the Flyers in the playoff round
against the Quakers. On Sunday morning, the Flyers faced off against the
tough Quakers. The Quakers came out strong, as the Flyers struggled, losing
the game 5-0. All in all, it was a good experience for the kids as they
played against some strong AA teams which had both size and speed.
(11-DEC-2006)
On Saturday, the Ramapo Saints visited Ice Line for a
league match-up with the Flyers. Once again, the Flyers dominated the game
with a strong offensive attack, solid defense and goaltending, as they took
this game 5-2.
On Sunday, the NJ Avalanche visited Ice Line for a much anticipated
match-up. The Flyers still remember the tough shoot-out loss they suffered
in Silversticks to the Avalanche and they wanted to avenge that loss. The
Flyers struck first as Chandler Liero put the puck past the Avalanche
goalie. The Avalanche fought hard and took a 2-1 lead after 2 periods. But
the Flyers were not to be denied as Derrick Hanaway knotted the score early
in the third period. Then with about 3-1/2 minutes left in the game, Trevor
Cohn took a pass in the zone from Matt Emerick and buried a backhand to give
the Flyers the lead. The Flyers stayed firm and held on for an exciting 3-2
victory.

Friday match-up against AYHL league opponent Ramapo Saints. The Flyers

Wings with a 5-2 victory. The Flyers won their division and advanced to the
playoff round.
On Sunday, the Flyers faced a tough league foe, the North Jersey Avalanche.
The Flyers lost twice previously to the Avalanche in close games prior to
Silversticks. The Flyers struck first and eventually built a 2-0 lead. The
Avalanche fought hard and scored 2 third period goals, the last with 33
seconds remaining to tie the score, forcing OT. The teams battled hard and
played scoreless hockey thru 2 OT periods and a shootout had to be used to
decide the game. It took 15 shooters to finally decide the winner and the
Avalanche prevailed. What an exciting game!! The rink was crowded as many
people witnessed probably the most exciting game of the entire tournament.
(20-NOV-2006)
The Suffolk PAL team visited Ice Line for a pair of home-home games this
weekend. Suffolk started off the scoring in the first period but the Flyers
quickly tied things up as J.R. Barone tipped a shot by Matt Emerick into the
net. The Flyers pressured the entire game but the Suffolk goalie was up to
the challenge, making some unbelievable saves. Even though the Flyers
dominated this game, the Suffolk goalie kept his team in the game by
steering away 46 of 50 shots, allowing them to squeak out a 5-4 victory.

from the point. The Bucs played hard and tied things up but the Flyers were
not to be denied as they built a 4-2 lead with goals from Derrick Hanaway,
D.J. Barbato and Joey Marooney. The Flyers applied constant pressure using
speed and skill but the Bucs goalie kept it close. They closed the gap to
4-3 but some late game heroics by Cameron Isen saved the game as the Bucs
had a wide open shot with 1 second remaining; Isen slid across and made the
save to preserve the 4-3 victory.

Chicago Chill. Both teams entered this game with 2 wins and the winner would
take the division and advance to the playoff round. The Flyers once again
showed why they are one of the top AAA teams at the tournament, using speed
and skill to outplay the Chill. The Flyers continually pressured the Chill
goalie and built themselves a lead on goals by JR Barone (2), Kevin McGeary,
Joey Marooney and Michael Churchvara. The defense (Churchvara, Davis, Cohn,
Emerick and McGeary) and goaltending (Osborne and Isen) was solid as the
Flyers easily won this one, 5-1.

On Sunday, the Flyers opened the quarterfinal playoff round against
Mid-Fairfield Blues. The Flyers started strong and fast and once again
showed their speed and quickness, building a 3-0 lead after 1 period. The
Flyers were all over the Blues but allowed them to hang around and not put
the finishing touches on them. This would prove costly as the Blues tallied
2 goals in the second and then eventually took the lead with 2 minutes left
in the game on a power play goal. The Flyers constant pressure could not
crack the Blue's goalie as they hung on to win and denied the Flyers a shot
at playing the Soviet Red Army team and a possible trip to the Championship.

Overall, the Flyers played very well against some top competition.
Hopefully, this will get them on track as they return home for League play
and the Silversticks Tournament at Thanksgiving.
(31-OCT-2006)
The Flyers continued their road trip with a Saturday afternoon visit to
Ramapo, NY to play the Saints. The Flyers came out strong and pressured the
Saints early and often. The Saints goaltender was up to the challenge though
and steered away shot after shot until Kevin McGeary fired a shot from the
point that slipped past the netminder late in the first period. The Saints
evened things up in the second period on a nice wrist shot. The Flyers
pressured the entire game but the Saints goalie would not bend, as he
stopped several good scoring attempts. The Flyers defense and goaltending
(Isen and Osborne) were solid as this game ended as a 1-1 tie.

it up later in the period. The game stayed 1-1 until midway thru the 3rd
when the Flyers got a power play goal from Trevor Cohn and just seconds
later, another tally by Joey Marooney. The Flyers then put this one away,

JR FLYERS CAPTURE AYHL SQUIRT MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
The JR Flyers ended their season in a big way
by capturing the AYHL Squirt Minor Championship. To get to this point, the
Flyers had to first play the tough Long Island Royals in the semifinal
match-up. The Flyers came out strong and applied the pressure early and
often. The offense moved the puck with precision, the defense shut down the
Royals attack, and the goaltending was outstanding as the Flyers advanced to
the Championship with a 6-2 victory. In the Championship game, the Flyers
faced their division archrivals, the Mercer Chiefs. Once again, the Flyers
came out strong and played a solid game all around, as they have done the
entire season. As the final seconds ticked away, the celebration began. What
a team effort! Congratulations to all the players and the coaching staff for
an outstanding season!
(21-FEB-2006)
The Jr. Flyers had themselves a busy schedule, playing 4
non league games this President's Day weekend. On Saturday morning, the
Flyers traveled to Wintersport to face the undefeated Wintersport Royals
Squirt team. The Royals had a clear size advantage but the Flyers used their
speed to even things up. The game was a defensive struggle as scoring
chances were kept at a minimum for both teams. After a scoreless first
period, the Royals got the first goal of the game, but the Flyers quickly
evened it up when Joey Marooney got loose and fired the puck over the Royals
goalie. That was all the scoring this game would see as the defense and
goaltending kept this one a 1-1 tie.

Saturday afternoon, the "96" Ashburn Extreme

battle to get things rolling. The Extreme battled hard but the strong
goaltending of Lucas Osborne and Cameron Isen kept them in check. The Flyers
finally opened things up and ended up with a hard fought 5-2 victory.

On Sunday morning, the Flyers traveled to Ramapo to face the Saints in a
non-league match-up. The Saints started quickly, scoring 2 goals in the
first minute of the game. But the Flyers battled hard and tightened up on
defense and knotted the score at 2-2 with about 4 minutes left in the game.
The score stayed that way until the Flyers got last second heroics from
Derrick Hanaway and D.J. Barbato. Hanaway made a "Hail Mary" pass to
Barbato, who fired a shot from the top of the circle and beat the Saints
goalie high with 4 seconds on the clock, giving the Flyers a 3-2 win.
On Sunday afternoon, the Flyers traveled to Mennen Arena for a league
match-up with the Colonials. The Colonials struck first to give them a 1-0
edge. The defensive battle continued until the Flyers finally tied things up
late in the second period on a goal by Chandler Liero. Liero than put the
Flyers up for good in the 3rd period with his second goal of the game. D.J.
Barbato added an insurance goal and Lucas Osborne turned away the Colonials
shots to give the Flyers their 16th league win, 3-1.
(27-JAN-2006)
The JR Flyers traveled to the Little Caesars Invitational to face off against
some of the best Squirt Minor AAA competition in the country. The Flyers
opened up on Friday morning against a tough Compuware team. The game was a
defensive battle which remained scoreless until late in the 2nd period when
Compuware got the first goal of the game. The Flyers fought hard and almost
tied it late in the 3rd on a stuffer, but the puck did not cross
the goal line. The game ended 1-0 with Compuware winning this hard battle.
In the second game on Friday, the Flyers took on the Dallas Ice Jets. This
game was a direct opposite of the first game with both teams
exchanging a pair of goals in
the first 5 minutes of the game. The seesaw battle continued as the game was
tied 4-4 in the 3rd period, but the Flyers finally broke the knot and
managed to pull ahead and finish off the Ice Jets, 7-4 for the victory.
On Saturday morning, the Flyers took on the Mississauga Ice Dogs from the
Canadian GTHL League. This game was an important one; if the Flyers wanted
to advance to the playoff round, they would need a victory. The Flyers came
out strong and showed they were a much faster team than the Ice
Dogs. The Flyers used their speed and pressured offensively the entire game,
out-shooting the Ice Dogs by an almost 3 to 1 advantage (shots 28-10), but
the tough Ice Dogs goalie steered away all but one shot, and with a little
help from the posts and crossbar, the Ice Dogs earned a 3-1 victory,
eliminating the Flyers from the playoff round.
On Sunday, the Flyers played a consolation game against Belle Tire. Once
again, the Flyers came out strong and built a 2-0 lead going into the 3rd
period. Belle Tire fought hard and tied the game about 2 minutes into the
last period on a pair of goals a minute apart. The score stayed 2-2 until
Belle Tire struck again with 90 seconds left in the game. The JR Flyers
could not answer and the game ended in a disappointing 3-2 loss.
(16-JAN-2006)
On Saturday morning, the Jr. Flyers traveled to Red Bank, NJ to face a tough
Red Bank Generals Squirt AA squad. The Flyers got things rolling when J.R.
Barone intercepted a pass less than a minute into the game and went in on a
breakaway to put the Flyers up 1-0. The Flyers continued to play hard and
built a 3-0 lead in the 2nd period on goals by Sean Wacker and Joey
Marooney, but the Generals would not quit. The Generals scored their first
goal of the game late in the 2nd period, then poured it on in the 3rd,
scoring 4 unanswered goals to take the lead 5-3. Sean Wacker scored for the
Flyers with 50 seconds left in the game to narrow the lead to 5-4. The
Flyers pressured the last seconds of the game but could not push the puck

After spending 5 days in Ottawa over the Christmas holiday, the Jr. Flyers
took to the home ice against the much improved NJ Rockets. The Flyers got
things started in the 1st period when D.J. Barbato scored about 5 minutes
into the game. Trevor Cohn added a goal near the end of the period to give
the Flyers a 2-0 edge. The Flyers then built a lead in the 2nd period on
goals by D.J. Barbato, Joey Marooney and Wills Singley, but the Rockets
fought hard and showed the Flyers they are not to be taken lightly, by
closing the gap with four goals in the second period. In the 3rd, the Flyers
got an insurance goal from Derrick Hanaway and held on to earn a 6-4 league
victory. The win boosted the Jr. Flyers league record to 15-3-4.

On Sunday, the Jr. Flyers traveled to Ice
World in Hatfield to play the always tough, Ice Dogs Squirt AA team. The Ice
Dogs came into the game with size and physical play but the Flyers were not
intimidated. The Flyers fought hard, moved the puck and used speed as their
weapon as they earned a convincing 4-1 victory in this non-league match-up.

(05-JAN-2006) Ottawa Bell
Capital Cup Tournament
(Wednesday, 28-DEC-2005) The Jr. Flyers
decided to take their act north of the border for some tough competition at
the Bell Cup Tournament in Ottawa. Many of the top Canadian and U.S. teams
were there for this prestigious tournament. The Flyers opened up with a pair
of Friendly games on Wednesday to get the kinks out after a long trip up.
The Flyers were shorthanded as a couple of players could not make the trip
and a few others battled the flu. Despite this, the Flyers faced off first
against a good LA Hockey club. Playing with only 9 skaters, the Flyers
showed how impressive a team they are as these kids showed determination and
beat the LA team 2-1. The 2nd game was against the highly rated Rochester
Americans; this game started immediately after the first, but this would not
slow down our guys. Everyone stepped up and worked hard, finishing off a
tremendous Amerks team with a hard fought, 3-2 victory.
(Thursday, 29-DEC-2005) The Flyers opened the
tournament with the Markam Waxers. The Flyers did not waste any time as Joey
Marooney put the Flyers up less than a minute into the game. The Waxers
tightened up and kept the game close as the first period ended at 1-0. D.J
Barbato put the Flyers up 2-0 about halfway thru the 2nd period. The Flyers
then got goals from Trevor Cohn and two from Sean Wacker in the 3rd period;
this, along with solid defense and goaltending of Cameron Isen, gave the Jr.
Flyers a convincing 5-0 win.

morning against the Westchester/Brewster NY team. Once again, Joey Marooney
got things started less than 2 minutes into the game by hitting the back of
the net. The NY team fought hard though and built a 2-1 lead after 2
periods. The Flyers finally tied things up when Chandler Liero scored his
first goal. The Flyers then built momentum and took the lead just 40 seconds
later as Joey Marooney scored his second of the game. Chandler Liero added
one more goal and Kevin McGeary put one into an empty net late in the 3rd to
give the Flyers their second victory in the tournament, 5-2.

(Friday, 29-DEC-2005) In the 2nd game on Friday
afternoon, the Flyers would face the tough, Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs team. Both
teams came into this game at 2-0 and the winner would automatically advance
to the playoff round, while the loser would have to hope for a wildcard
berth. The Bulldogs came out strong and kept the pressure on the Flyers
while building a 2-0 lead after 1 period. The Flyers tried hard but where
run down by the stomach virus and could not keep up with a strong and
healthy Bulldogs team. Bulldogs 7-2.

On Saturday morning, the Jr. Flyers welcomed the Jr. Phantoms to Ice
Line for the last league match-up between these two teams. The previous
games were all close, hard fought games, and this one proved to be no
different. The Phantoms struck first, about 1-1/2 minutes into the game. The
Flyers quickly came back as Derrick Hanaway tied things up a few minutes
later. The battle continued until Joey Marooney broke the tie with about 4
minutes left in the first period on a nifty backhand shot. The Flyers then
built momentum and stretched the lead to 4-1 after goals by Kevin McGeary
and Trevor Cohn. But the Phantoms would not quit and closed the gap to 4-3
late in the third period. The Phantoms applied pressure the entire third
period but Lucas Osborne was up to the task and made some game-saving saves
to keep the lead for the Flyers. The Flyers then put the game away when
Chandler Liero found a wide open D.J. Barbato with a minute left in the game
to seal the victory, 5-3.

Saturday afternoon, the Jr. Flyers traveled to Bridgewater to face the
NJ Rockets. After a tight 1st period, D.J. Barbato got the Flyers on the
board to take a 1-0 lead. The Rockets battled hard though and were able to
take a 2-1 lead. The weary Flyers managed though to find a second wind and
finally broke things open late in the second period with 2 goals within 10
seconds of each other. Derrick Hanaway finished the game with a hatrick as
the Flyers took the victory, 6-3.

In game 1 at Ice Line, the Glaciers struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the

goal from Joey Marooney. Late in the first period, Wills Singley added his
first of 2 goals to give the Flyers the lead for good. Kevin McGeary added 2
goals in the 3rd period as the Flyers controlled play for the rest of the
game and earned a 7-3 victory.

the tough Chiefs in a league match-up. The Flyers looked a bit sluggish
early as the Chiefs built a 2-0 lead in the first period. The Flyers battled
back and scored 3 unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead. After a goal by the
Chiefs to tie the game, the Flyers took control and built a 5-3 lead late
into the 3rd. Despite being out shot by the Mercer Chiefs, the Flyers then
held on to pick up the win 5-4 while boosting their league record to 12-3-4.

the first period as Derrick Hanaway hit the back of the net with one of his
3 goals on the day. Kevin McGeary and Chandler Liero added goals in the

just under the crossbar for the first goal of the game. Just a few minutes
later, Sean Wacker made it 2-0 in favor of the Flyers. Kevin McGeary tacked
on 2 more goals in the 2nd period and the Flyers kept working hard. In the

into this game with only 1 league loss. The Flyers came at the Royals hard
from the opening face off. Kevin McGeary put the Flyers up 1-0 in the 1st
period and less than a minute later J.R. Barone made it 2-0. This is all the
Flyers would need as the offense (Barbato, Wacker, Liero, Singley, Marooney,
Hanaway, McGeary, Barone) provided great back checking, the defensive pairs
of Churchvara-Cohn, Davis-Emerick were solid and the outstanding goaltending
of Lucas Osborne and Cameron Isen, shut down the Royals to give the Jr.

scoring with J.R. Barone putting the puck past the Phantoms goaltender
early, but the Phantoms struck back quickly and knotted the score at 1-1.
The Flyers took control for most of the 2nd period, building a 4-1 lead,
despite the absence of 3 players. The Phantoms mounted a comeback to pull
within a goal, but the Jr. Flyers tightened up and held on for a hard fought

The NJ Colonials visited Ice Line for a Sunday league match-up. Once again,
the Flyers got things going by opening up the scoring. The Flyers built
momentum and 3-1 lead going into the 3rd period. If not for some stellar
saves by the Colonials goalie, the lead could have been much more because
the Flyers continually fired shots at the Colonials net minder the entire
game. Not getting pucks over the goal line proved costly as the Colonials
managed to tie the game with 6 seconds remaining in regulation to end this
match-up in a 3-3 tie.

seconds into the game. The flow of the game settled down until D.J. Barbato
hit the back of the net, giving the Flyers a 2-0 lead at then end of the
first period. The Jr. Flyers then began to dominate play and built a 4-0
lead with goals from Wills Singley and Joey Marooney in the 2nd period. The
Flyers had to buckle down in the 3rd because the Rockets were clearly
picking up their pace, but the Flyers managed 5 more goals with Joey
Marooney picking up another goal for a hat-trick. The Flyers defense
(Churchvara, Cohn, Emerick, Davis) played solid despite missing Nick
Fischer. Combined with great back-checking, the Flyers allowed only 4 shots by the Rockets the entire game as the Jr.
Flyers picked up the victory, 9-1.

On Sunday, a stout Frederick Fury Squirt AA team visited Ice Line for a
non-league match-up. The Fury team brought a great game after traveling 2+
hours to fill in for a last minute cancellation and for that we thank the
players and parents of the Frederick Fury hockey club. Both teams came out
skating fast with back and forth action the entire game. The Jr. Flyers
struck first with Chandler Liero scoring a goal about half-way thru the 1st
period. It was at this point in the game that the Jr. Flyers really showed
how important it is to work as a team. The Fury picked up the pace in the
3rd period, scoring two quick goals in what was beginning to be a quick
comeback for the Fury. However, the Flyers buckled down and began moving the
puck with patience and determination and With the help from a solid effort
by the defense and goaltending from Cameron Isen and Lucas Osborne, the
Flyers earned a hard fought victory, 6-2.

After stringing together three league wins the
previous weekend, The Jr. Flyers Squirt Minor Team came into this weekend
confident and ready to play. On Saturday night, the Flyers faced off
against the undefeated, highly rated, Long Island Gulls. The Gulls started strong,
taking a 2-0 lead after 1 period. But the Jr. Flyers showed no fear and
quickly turned things around. D.J. Barbato got loose and scored on a
breakaway to make it 2-1. A few minutes later, defenseman Michael
Churchvara made some nifty moves in the zone and shot the puck over the
Gull's goaltender to knot the score at 2. The Jr. Flyers then built
momentum and dominated play, taking a 5-2 lead into the 3rd period. The
Gulls did not give up though and came back to knot the score at 5 with about 2
minutes left in the game. The excitement continued as the Flyers almost pulled the game out with about 40 seconds left; Trevor Cohn stole the puck from a Gulls defenseman
and shot one that hit the post and trickled inches from the goal line. This
exciting game ended as a 5-5 tie, but more importantly, gave the Jr. Flyers
confidence that they can play with anyone in the AYHL.

early in the first but the Flyers knotted the game soon after with a goal

slowly slipped away as the Phantoms closed the gap to 5-4. The battle
continued and the lead went back up to 7-4, again with the Barbato, Liero,
Barone line sparking the Flyers. The Phantoms fought back to get it to 7-6

(13-OCT-2005) The 1996 Jr. Flyers Squirt Minor team attended the 2nd annual Rochester "96" AAA Invitational Games, October 8-10. The Rochester Americans hosted 16 teams at the ESL Sports Centre in Rochester, NY, with teams traveling from Canada and the US. The 1996 Jr. Flyers were in a division with the Guelph Jr. Storm, Monroe County Eagles and the defending tournament champions, South Shore Kings. Trevor Cohn and Kevin McGeary led the team with aggressive play, scoring four goals and just as many assists. The Jr. Flyers then advanced to the Quarterfinal against their AYHL foe, Mercer Chiefs. Again, the Jr. Flyers played a well balanced game against the always tough Chiefs and earned the victory, 6-2. This victory sent the Jr. Flyers to the tournament semifinals with a 4-0 record. The semifinalists were Detroit's Little Caesars vs. the Providence Capitals, and the Jr. Flyers vs. the Montreal Jr. Mustangs. The Jr. Flyers bowed out in the semifinal game to a highly skilled Mustang team, who went on to win the tournament by beating Little Caesars. Overall, this was a great effort by the players and coaching staff.

They then went on to defeat the NJ Pro Tec Selects 4-1 in the semi-final game and the Philadelphia Phantoms 2-1 in the championship. The team played very well, led by an explosive offensive attack and solid defense and goaltending. The team is coached by Kevin McGeary and assisted by Dave Barbato and Rich Marooney.
