Championship-caliber teams save their best for last. That was the case for the Philadelphia Jr Flyers as they bounced back from two early tournament losses to prevail in the final game by a score of 6-2 against the home-team Jr Warriors Select squad. Heading into that contest, it appeared as if the title was the Warriors to lose as they had been offensively dominating from the start, posting a 3-0-1 record and 26 goals heading into the semifinals. The Flyers took the wind out of the Warriors sails from the very start as they jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead through the first period of play. Ryan Ferrill, Matt Gable and Erich Franz all found the back of the net in that period. Philadelphia increased its lead to 4-0 when Tommy Kane notched his first of the game at the 9:25 mark of the second period. It took another four minutes for the Warriors to finally crack the scoring column when Michael St. Denis sent a blistering wrist shot past netminder Tommy McGuckin.  The third period was much of the same as the Flyers’ Derek Mallon and Buddy Summers got into the scoring action. The only other offensive highlight for the Warriors came at the 10:38 mark of the third period when Nicholas Ducharme collected a feed from Jeff McCabe for his team’s second and final goal of the game.
