Midget 18U Wins:
The Midget Major AAA Jr.
Flyers went 5-0 in the Philadelphia Regional Silversticks tournament. In the first game
of the preliminary round, the Jr. Flyers
defeated the NY Applecore team 7-0, then
defeated the Ellington Eels 6-0. The final
game in the preliminary round had the Jr
Flyers come from behind to win 2-1 against a
determined Hudson Valley squad. |

The quarter finals against The Tri City
Eagle was a much closer game than the 4-1
score leads one to believe. The Finals
against Central Penn Panther was the fastest
paced game of the tournament. The Jr Flyers
won this contest 4-0 for the Championship. |

Midget 16U Wins:
The Midget Minor AAA Jr.
Flyers went 6-0 in the Philadelphia Regional
Silversticks tournament. In the first game
of the preliminary round, the Jr. Flyers had
to come back from behind (6-5)against the
South Florida Golden Wolves and score two
goals in the last 3 minutes of the third
period to win 7-6. In the next game, the Jr.
Flyers posted a convincing 5-1 win over the
NJ Rockets. Another hard fought games versus
the Montgomery Blue Devils resulted in a 4-3
victory. |

Very early Sunday AM, the Jr. Flyers beat
Westchester Express 5 to 1 in the quarter
finals. The semi-finals was a head to head,
close checking battle against the Long
Island Royals, with the Jr. Flyers posting a
2-0 win. The championship game pitted the
strong Eastern Massachusetts Senators
against the Jr. Flyers. Being the third game
of the day for both teams, it became a test
of endurance. The Jr. Flyers gained a 2-0
lead, but the Senators fought back and tied
the score 2-2. Eric Tangradi scored on a
deflected shot from the point in the second
period. An empty net goal relieved the
pressure with 30 seconds left, after strong
pressure from the Senators to tie the game
during the 3rd period.

3-1-1 in Philly Shootout |
The Philadelphia JR Flyers
1994 Peewee Minor team went
3-1-1 at the Philadelphia
Shootout Tournament on Memorial
Day weekend to lose only in the
finals. The team tied the
Hollydell AAA 3-3 in a game in
which the trailed 3-1 in
there 1st game as a new team. In
there 2nd game Coach Ted Bierer
made some adjustments and the
team responded well beating the
Virginia Statesmen 5-2. Next the
team played the New England
Nighthawks totally shutting them
down 4-0. The team game up just
8 shots on net to help Nick the
Brick Ellis record his 1st
shutout as a JR Flyer in a total
team effort. In the semi finals
the team faced a very good
Montgomery Blue Devils team beat
them 2-0 to help Nick Ellis
record his 2nd shutout of the
tournament. Then came the finals
the team faced a high scoring
Syracuse Stars team. The JR
Flyers scored 1st but soon lost
the lead and the game 3-2 in
what was a fun and exciting
game. The coaches and parents
are all proud of the way the
kids played in there 1st
tournament and look forward to a
great season. (It was
a total team effort this
weekend.)

97 Teams
opens with the Philly Shootout |
|
The 97 JR Flyers Mite Major Team made their
debut at the Philadelphia Shootout with a win
over Montgomery 9-2 and a win over a tough
Connecticut Yankees team 5-3. The offense
played very well, scoring 14 goals in just two
games and the defense & goaltending stepped it
up to turn away a combined 45 shots. In the
last two games, the team ran into a difficult
Long Island & New England teams, who played
tough down the stretch and defeated the 97 JR
Flyers, who went 2 & 2 for the tournament. The
coaches did a great job with the kids, led by
head coach Sean Higgins and assistant
coaches Pat McTiernan & Ed Abel. |

captures the Philly Shootout Championship |
|
The Philadelphia JR
Flyers 1996 Squirt Minor team went 5-0 at the
Philadelphia Shootout Tournament on Memorial Day
weekend to capture the tournament championship.
The team defeated the Philadelphia Phantoms 4-1,
Tri-State Stars 6-1 and Syracuse Stars 6-4 in
the preliminary rounds. They then went on
to defeat the NJ Pro Tec Selects 4-1 in the
semi-final game and the Philadelphia Phantoms
2-1 in the championship. The team played
very well, led by an explosive offensive attack
and solid defense and goaltending. The
team is coached by Kevin McGeary and assisted by
Dave Barbato and Rich Marooney. |

captures the Philly Shootout Championship |
|
The Jr Flyers 91
Bantam Major Team made their debut over the
Memorial Day weekend by successfully winning the
2005 Philadelphia Shoot Out held at Ice Line.
The team was undefeated throughout the
preliminary rounds beating the Colorado Kodiaks,
Montgomery Blue Devils and West Chester
Quakers. The team advanced to the semi-finals
and defeated Hollydell AAA 8 to 3. In the
Championship Game, the Jr Flyers defeated the
Virginia Statesmen 5 to 3. During the
tournament, the team exploded offensively by
scoring 37 goals against their opponents.
Brendan Smith led the team with 7 goals,
followed by Andrew Lamont with 6 and Michael
Broft with 5. While Zach Cunningham led the team
with 7 assists, with Lamont adding 6 assists
followed by Steve Smith with 5. The 91 team’s
strong defense helped goaltenders Stephen Kelly
and Brandon Provenzano keep the opposition and
puck away from their net. This was a very
exciting and encouraging win for all of the
players and coaching staff. The team is coached
by Robert Lewis. |
