Statistics, while considered, were not the final decision-maker for selections. The All-Delco team is comprised of the top eight players, regardless of position, in Delaware County this season. The All-Delco team was selected after close consultation with area coaches, league personnel and local hockey observers. The basis for selections was how each individual performed for his high school team and the worth of each player to his respective team. Statistics, while considered, were not the final decision-maker for selections and club team statistics and performance were also not considered.

While some players have opted to skip playing school hockey, there was never a doubt that Campli would return to the Fords for his senior season. Like many players in Delco, Campli had a few options after a successful junior campaign in which he received honorable mention on the All-Delco list.
"I really wanted the chance to play hockey for school during my senior year and that’s the reason I chose to play for the Junior Flyers Junior B team in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League," said Campli. "I went there to play for my coach Dave Dorman and because it gave me the opportunity to play at a high level in club hockey, while still playing for school. It’s really worked out well for me."

The 2006-07 All-Delco hockey team includes:
  • 1st team Forward - Sean Coll, So., Forward, Cardinal O'Hara (I): Coll made the transition from freshman contributor last season to the Lions' leading scorer this season. The sophomore forward has utilized his speed and scoring touch to lead the EHSHL AAA Division with 25 goals and 19 assists for 44 points this season. Coll also plays club hockey for the Jr. Flyers 18-U AAA Midget team.
  • 1st team Forward - Kevin Murray, Jr., Forward, Cardinal O'Hara (I): The rugged junior is the emotional leader of the Lions and has tallied 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points this season. Murray's grit and toughness make him a tough match up for the opposition, but his excellent play at both ends of the ice is what sets him apart. Murray also plays club hockey for the Jr. Flyers Junior B team.
  • 1st team Defenseman - Justin Stewart, Sr., Defenseman, Cardinal O'Hara (I): Stewart is one of the most versatile players in the county. As a blue-liner for the Lions, Stewart was the highest-scoring defenseman in the county with 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points. Stewart, who plays forward for his club team, uses his speed and puck-handling ability to provide a steady presence to O'Hara's defensive unit. Stewart also plays club hockey for the Jr. Flyers 18-U AAA Midget team.
  • 2nd team Goaltender - Jim Murray, Cardinal O'Hara (I) Murray also plays club hockey for the Jr. Flyers Junior B team.
  • 3rd team Defenseman - Shane Coyle, Haverford High Coyle also plays club hockey for the Jr. Flyers Junior B team.
  • Honorable Mention Defenseman Doug Marshall, Garnet Valley. Marshall also plays club hockey for the Jr. Flyers Junior B team.
  • Honorable Mention Forward Chris Guglielmo, Marple Newtown. Guglielmo also plays club hockey for the Jr. Flyers 18-U AAA Midget team.

Jr Flyer's Midgets Off to Nationals!

The Atlantic District's Tier I midget playoffs concluded with the area's two strongest teams qualifying for midget nationals in Fraser, MI. Make no mistake: the 16U New Jersey Devils' Youth and the 18U Philadelphia Jr. Flyers are legitimate contenders for national championships.

The Jr. Flyers finished in second place in the 18U District standings, but few observers of the division believed they were anything but the strongest team. The Chiefs were valiant in defeat, and took the first game of the five-game series, 3-0. But the Jr. Flyers roared back with consecutive shutout victories (1-0 and 3-0), and then captured the series with a 6-2 win at the Ice Vault on Saturday, March 3.

Both the Devils and the Jr. Flyers have faced, and fared well against, the nation's top midget programs. The Jr. Flyers have defeated the highly-regarded Dallas Stars, Honeybaked, and squared off against the consensus #1 team in the country, Shattuck St. Mary's. They will not be intimidated by anyone they face at nationals.

Meet Connor Brogan, a young man who’s been asked to grow up faster than most. Brogan is an ’89 goaltender who hails from Hershey (PA) – minding the goal of the Head Coach Bud Dombroski’s Philadelphia Jr. Flyers. Brogan currently holds a 0.880 save percentage and sports a 2.9 goals against average. An above average student, Brogan holds down a 3.7 GPA through a demanding hockey season – the most demanding one any of us could ever imagine....

Wrap Up: This is a great season ending tournament. The players are playing in front of the USHL, NAHL, National Development team, and College scouts. Some tournament highlights.
  • Playing Dallas to a 3-3 tie killing off a two man disadvantage with 2:40 left to play. Then beating them in a shootout with our last man scoring (Brian O'Neill) for a 4-3 victory.
  • Interesting game with the Madison Capitols squad that ended in a 4-4 shootout tie. (each team scored one in shootout for tie).
  • Great game against powerful Honeybaked seeing Dominic Morrone score right in front of the BU scout. Tim McGarry break up a 4 on 2 and then get the puck to Trey Milstead for the open net goal.
  • Playing a great first period against Shattuck until Dominic Morrone was called for a 2+10 check from behind leaving us with 8 forwards. Trailing Shattuck 3-0 after two periods then coming out and scoring 7 seconds into the third to start a rally.
  • Shots on Goal for Game 1-Mercer 20, Jr Flyers 37.....Game 2-Dallas 47, Jr Flyers 28.....Game 3-Madison 27, Jr Flyers 33.....Game 4-Honeybaked 23, Jr Flyers 24.....Game 5-Shattuck 42, Jr Flyers 21.

Jr Flyers have Top Showing in Northwood Invitational

   Game #1    Jr Flyers - 5  Vs.  NSA - 3

The Jr Flyers Midget team opened up the Northwood Invitational with National Sports Academy, (NSA) a local prep school team. This was the 2nd meeting between these two team, the Jr Flyers routing NSA 9-2 in the Warriors EJHL Classic. Because of the score the Jr Flyers coaching staff was concerned the team would become overconfident and take NSA lightly. This would not be the case. Dominic Morrone opened the scoring 4 minutes into the game with an assist from Brian O'Neill. Another minute and a half later Richard Masciantonio converted a Sean Coll rebound for the 2-0 lead. NSA found life when a wrist shoot eluded goaler Dan Sullivan and then Hilary Cholhan scored from the goal line to tie the game 2-2. . After the face off, Trey Milstead scored from O'Neill and McInernay just 14 seconds after NSA tied the game. With minutes remaining in the 25 minute half. NSA's leading scorer, Edwin Montgomery tied the game with a power play goal. After the ice cut the Jr Flyers came out of locker room flying. Brian O'Neill scored 46 seconds into the period assisted by Morrone and Milstead. The game became an old school clutch and grab game and looked as if no more goals would be scored today. With the game clock running down a hard hit by Dominic Morrone was called roughing and NSA would get the chance to tie the game. While on the penalty killing unit Cole Ikkla scored shorthanded from Shane Allen but the whistle never blew. With play continuing there was little time to argue but the Flyers survived the penalty. The Jr Flyers on their 2nd power play of the game put this one away. A Tim McGarry power play goal with 5 minutes left was assisted by Milstead for a final 5-3 win.

   Game #2    Jr Flyers - 7  Vs.  NJ Titans Jr B - 2

Names with Yellow Shading have a video clip you can click on! (Broadband)

The 2nd game would be against a Metropolitan Jr B team, The New Jersey Titans(23-11-0). The Titans were coming off a pair of close losses to the Jr Flyers Jr B team 5-4 and 10-8. The coaching staff knew this game would not be easy. The Jr Flyers Shane Allen opened the scoring after blocking a shot and wristed it by the Jr Titans goaltender. The Jr Titans stormed right back 21 seconds later to tie the game when Chris Holmes scored his 1st of two goals on the night. Dominic Morrone scored to give the Flyers the lead with 3 minutes left in the period assisted by Milstead. With 35 second left in the half the Flyers added to that lead on power play goal from Morrone assisted by Milstead and O'Neill. After the ice cut the Titans came out with some life, Holmes scored his 2nd just 3 minutes into the period. This would be as close as the Titans would get. Just 2 minutes later Chris Gentile scored from Loucks, Milstead scored form Morrone and O'Neill, Gentile scored his 2nd and then completed the hat trick with a high light reel goal roofing the puck Gentile scores while he was on his knees assist going to Cole Ikkala. Final Score was 7-2.    -    Goaltender High Lights

   Game #3    Jr Flyers - 5  Vs.  NY Bobcats Jr A - 3

Names with Yellow Shading have a video clip you can click on! (Broadband)

The biggest game of the tournament was against the power house NY Bobcats Jr A team. Currently the Bobcats are the top team in the AJHL (27-2-0). The Jr Flyers coaching staff was excited to match themselves up with some of the best coaches in area. The Jr Flyers got a chance when leading scorer, Scott Birnstill was called for hooking. Dominic Morrone scored an unassisted power play goal to take the Flyers first lead 1-0 at 3:23. Just two and half minutes later Morrone scored again on a tap in after some nifty passing from O'Neill to Milstead. The Jr Flyers took a 3-0 lead when a centering pass from Bill Connelly and Justin Stewart when Chris Gugliemo deflected one in less than half way through the period. With the Bobcats on the Powerplay the Jr Flyers looked bad in their own zone and failed to clear the puck many times. Then the Bobcats top scoring defenseman, Justin Porpora stepped into the slot to blow the puck past goalie Conner Brogan just 1:14 left in the 1st half. The assists to Jarett Gold and Patrick Moriaty. The game stayed 3-1 at the ice cut. In the locker room the coaching staff kept reminding the players that the NJ Titans had a 3-0 lead and could not hold it. That the Bobcats offense was too strong to try to just sit on the lead. The game resumed and both teams continued to fly up and down the ice. The NY Bobcats struck first when Dan Cassano scored 5 minutes into the period assisted by Tom Capalbo Trey Milstead scored less than four minutes later assisted by Stephan Gigiotti and the Jr Flyers had the two goal lead again. The Bobcats had the Jr Flyers running causing Justin Stewart to take a hooking penalty. Tom Capalbo used this to close the game back to one scoring the power play goal with and assist going to Pat Moriarty. Just eleven seconds after the Bobcats goal the Jr Flyers and more than 13 minutes remaining, Cole Ikkla was called for tripping. The Jr Flyers needed and did get some big time goaltending from Conner Brogan or the game would have been tied. Now the game was being played more in the Flyers zone than in the Bobcats zone and any defensive mistakes could be fatal. The Jr Flyers continued to trade rushes until Brian O'Neill walked out of the corner pulling the goaltender Doug Darzi with him and then slide the puck in behind him for the 5-3 lead. Justin Stewart took another holding penalty with 2:28 left but the Bobcats nullified it one minute in with their own roughing call. Final Score Jr Flyers 5 NY Bobcats 3. On to the Semi Finals   -   Goaltender High Lights

   Game #4    Jr Flyers - 2  Vs.  Northwood School Juniors - 3

Names with Yellow Shading have a video clip you can click on! (Broadband)

The Semi finals would be against the host Northwood School. Northwood had a distinct schedule advantage only playing once on Saturday at 3:30pm. The Jr Flyers had a 1:15pm against the Jr Titans and a 7:30pm game against the NY Bobcats. Northwood jumped out to a 1-0 lead eleven minutes into the game scoring on the powerplay. Another power play goal at 15:44 made it a 2-0 lead and things look bad for the Jr Flyers. A vicious high stick to Justin Stewarts head, left him bleeding and a possible broken nose. The Jr Flyers could only convert once on the 5 minute power play advantage. Cole Ikkla was credited with the goal but the video it looks like the goal was scored by Dan Loucks from Chris Gentile on the power play to cut the lead in half at the ice cut. After the ice cut the Jr Flyers surrendered another power play goal 8 minutes into the period. The Jr Flyers continued to pressure the Northwood goaltender but were not very successful in getting to the rebounds until Brian O'Neill was able to score with 4:39 left assisted by Tim McGarry. The Jr Flyers continued to press but time and energy finally ran out. Final Score Northwood 3 Jr Flyers 2.
Notes: Brian O'Neill made all tournament team. This is the first Jr Flyers team to qualify for the semi finals. Past teams have made the consolation round twice. Northwood beat St Francis Prep 5-1 out shooting them 30-18. Defeated the NJ Rockets Jr B team 6-2 out shooting them 53-13. Defeated Washington Nationals Jr A team 4-2 out shooting them 37-19. Northwood defeated the Jr Flyers 3-2 out shooting them 30-27 and captured the championship by defeating the Empire Jr B Brewster Bulldogs 4-2 out shooting them 42-22. Overall a very good run by the Jr Flyers Midget Players. Although scouts seemed down this year, Several Jr Flyers players were talked to by D1, D3, and Jr College hockey coaches. USHL Chicago Steel GM, Jason Koehler, was a guest on the Jr Flyers bus and spent some time answering parents and players questions.
